Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
